A Gorgeous Day for racing!
The skies were threatening rain and thunderstorms as 87 athletes from around the Midwest prepared to compete in the ninth running of the Silver Lake Duathlon, which benefits La Lumiere School. From the starting gun, Tim Huber lead the charge through the scenic but difficult 5k running trail, followed closely by Randall Wood and Daniel Goodman, defending champion from the previous year. He was passed by only one competitor during the biking leg, defending champion, Chris Kunst. Chris was overtaken in the final leg by Daniel Goodman, who came in first place in Men’s Overall. Chris finished only a minute and half behind Daniel for the second place position. The competition was fierce and the diversity along the trails was stunning—children as young as 9 ran and biked alongside adults for all three legs of the race or split up into relay teams, and athletes representing every angle of the duathlon sport gave it their all, whether they were beginners, casual competitors, or seasoned runners and cyclists.
The day warmer as the race went on, but the athletes were prepared and persistent, and the finish line was crossed by every participant. Congratulations, athletes, on a job well done, and we hope to see you all again on May 21, 2017!
